Freshmen Filled Future: A Look Ahead

March 24, 2011

Steve Lavin is "pumped" for his 2011-2012 recruiting class

An overall successful season for the St. John’s Redmen Red Storm left a bad taste in the mouth of the fan base as the team fell victim to the Gonzaga Bulldogs in the first round of The NCAA Tournament.   It was the first time since 2002 that St. John’s had earned the right to compete for a national championship, a notion that seemed like a fantasy about three months ago.  Nevertheless, the quality wins kept mounting, and the nation’s top teams kept falling, and The Johnnies captured the hearts of many en route to an NCAA Tournament bid.  Despite many frustrating moments, fans like myself will never forget the 10 graduating seniors, as they returned St. John’s to the forefront of college basketball.

But as the saying goes, all “good” things must come to an end.  It’s now time to turn the page and welcome the number two ranked recruiting class in the country, as Steve Lavin has branched out to all coasts to secure the top talent available.

A smorgasbord of sports thoughts

June 16, 2010

A lot going on in the Big Apple....

The Mets are all of a sudden road warriors, the Yankees continue to dominate at home, Darrelle Revis may not be who we thought he was, and the Nets have a new coach.  Oh yea, and apparently Lebron James is bigger than New York City.  Yuck….

I have a lot on my mind, and it’s time to rant!

Boiling Point

June 3, 2010

Johan Santana has been dominant once again this season, with an ERA of 1.29 in his last five starts and an ERA of 2.75 for the season.  If you dig deeper into the numbers, and take out the one inning in which he let up nine runs to the Phillies who were illegally stealing signs, his ERA dips down a full run to 1.75 on the year.  However, the lefty has just four wins on the season, and Wednesday afternoon against the Padres was another wasted Johan Santana effort for the Mets.  While most players would love the opportunity to play in New York, one has to begin wondering whether Santana secretly wishes he could exile himself from the city and the organization.  Read the rest of this entry ?

May 25, 2010

The Jets and Giants are one big happy family

On Tuesday, the NFL officials voted to host the 2014 Super Bowl at the brand new Meadowlands Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.  Earlier this month, representatives from both the Jets and Giants, including Mark Sanchez and Eli Manning, presented their case to the league. After the three potential hosts presented their piece again, and after four rounds of voting, the Jets and Giants eventually beat out the Bucs and Dolphins for the right to host the biggest spectacle in American sports.  Read the rest of this entry ?

Groundhog Day

May 24, 2010

Everything is all 'high-fives' in Mets land...for now.

For one weekend, the New York Mets were able to lay claim to the New York baseball throne by defeating the hated Yankees in an important series for the franchise.  For three days, Mets fans could boast that Pelfrey was better than Phil Hughes and any thoughts of Sabathia being the better ace than Santana were put to bed.  While the two wins in the past two days appeared to have saved Jerry Manuel’s job, and put some life into the Mets season, fans of The Amazins must keep their excitement in check.

After all, haven’t we seen this same story before?  Read the rest of this entry ?

The State of the Union

May 21, 2010

After a 10-7 win over the Nationals Thursday night, the Mets completed a 2-6 road trip and limp home facing six games at Citi Field that could be the coup de grace for Jerry Manuel.  Despite an abundance of injuries, three games against the Yankees will be no cake walk and the red-hot Phillies loom after the weekend.  A mediocre Mets team could find themselves six or so games under .500 by the end of next Thursday.  Read the rest of this entry ?

NBA Draft Lottery is a joke

May 19, 2010

Last night the Washington Wizards earned the right to draft John Wall first overall via the Draft Lottery.  The Philadelphia 76’ers were the first runners-up and the lowly New Jersey Nets came in third.  Despite losing 70 games in embarrassing fashion, the Brooklyn-bound franchise can’t even reap the benefits of being the doormat of the NBA last season.  Read the rest of this entry ?
