Here lies Jerry Manuel….

May 17, 2010

A moment of silence, please.

Sunday afternoon was a beautiful day on the Island, complete with sunny skies and a cool refreshing breeze.  However, instead of lounging on the beaches, firing up the BBQ, or taking a stroll with my girlfriend on the boardwalk, I decided to torture myself like I was starring in Saw 7 and plop on the couch to catch the Mets/Marlins game.  The “Amazins” were attempting to impede a four-game sweep at the hands of the fish.  The contest began like a scene out of Groundhog’s day, as the third inning came equipped with defensive follies, clutch hitting by the opponent, and an injury to a pitcher to boot.  All things that Mets fans have become accustom to  for the past 10 plus seasons.  Read the rest of this entry ?

Dwayne Polee will wear the Red and White this year

Steve Lavin secured his first recruit for St. John’s on Thursday, as 6 foot 7 wing-man Dwayne Polee will join the Red Storm for the 2010-2011 season.  Polee comes out of Westchester High in LA and has been described as “the best dunker in high school basketball.”  In addition to his high-light reels, Polee also averaged 21 points and 8 rebounds in leading Westchester to the state Championship.  He was named the City Player of the year by the Los Angeles Times.  Read the rest of this entry ?

I have mapped out the top five players on each team’s radar, as well as three others to look out for.  Nevertheless, predicting who will do what has grown increasingly difficult as there are more trades and maneuvers than ever before.  Read the rest of this entry ?

NHL Playoffs begin with a BANG!

April 15, 2010

Sid the Kid and his Penguins are already down 1-0 to the Senators

We here at T.O.N.Y. Sports apologize for the lack of NHL coverage, but hockey is just simply trumped by the other major sports in this town.  Nonetheless, even with both the Rangers and Islanders out of the race for the cup, the Stanley Cup playoffs definitely peaked my interest last night.  Read the rest of this entry ?

Time for a change

It takes a hardened personality to take on the likes of New York City. The noise, the scenery and the pressure can break even the grittiest of pipes. Everyday, immigrants and out of towners arrive at Laguardia or Kennedy looking for opportunity. An opportunity to establish themselves in a city that boasts a million and one success stories.
