Sleeping with the enemy

Jason Taylor could be a Jet

Free-agent Jason Taylor met with the Jets brass at Gang Green’s Florham Park facilities on Wednesday.  With Jay Feely leaving for the desert, the Jets have room to sign a free-agent, granted the contract is not worth more than $1.5 million a year.

Gary Wichard, Taylor’s agent, stated that Rex Ryan called him last weekend and said Taylor was his No. 1 target in free agency.  The Jets need an outside pass rusher, and all indications point to Vernon Gholston being a complete bust.  Wichard further stated that Jason was very flattered by the respect the Jets showed and that he desperately wants to win a Superbowl and views the Jets as a contender.  Read the rest of this entry ?

The top 10 athletes of the 2000’s….No. 1

December 23, 2009

"Quiet, for the serve"

The countdown is about to come to a close, and this tennis player was the most dominant athlete of the 2000’s.  Many lists picked Tiger Woods, Michael Phelps, or even Tom Brady to claim this spot, but many also did not realize what my number 1 athlete accomplished over the past 10 years.   As of September, 2009, he is ranked world number 1 by the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP), having previously held the number one position for a record 237 consecutive weeks.   Many sports analysts, tennis critics, former and current players consider this athlete to be the greatest tennis player of all time and one of the greatest athletes the sports world has ever seen.

The top 10 athletes of the 2000’s….No. 3

December 21, 2009

"With the 199th pick of the 2000 NFL draft...."

The number three athlete began the decade as an obscure backup, but closes it as the most accomplished player in the nation’s most popular sport.  This quarterback is a three-time champion whose persona has transcended football.   In addition, despite appearing in just four Pro-Bowls and winning “only” one MVP, this athlete has been the epitome of clutch in the big spot, leading his team to some of the most memorable victories of the 2000’s.  Some players have passed him in terms of individual accolades and honors, but nobody can match his accomplishments when championships are on the line.

The good, the bad and the ugly

December 7, 2009

Louis Murphy celebrates after his game-winning touchdown against the Steelers.

The Jets  were able to rest up on Sunday after they beat the Buffalo Bills 19-13 Thursday night in Toronto. They were also able to pick up a couple of much needed victories in week 13. Gang Green is still not in good shape, as they hold a 2-4 division record and five conference losses, so a lot of scenarios will still have to unfold for the Jets to make the playoffs. Nonetheless, some things worked in the Jets favor on Sunday and some did not.

Giants resuscitated, Jets remain on life support

November 22, 2009

Eli Manning had a career day against the Falcons

Despite another meltdown by the shaky Giant defense, Lawrence Tynes kicked the G-men to a 34-31 victory, keeping the Giants in good position for a playoff spot.  The giants snapped their four-game losing streak, and Eli Manning threw for a career-high 384 yards.  Eli added three touchdown passes, including two to Kevin Boss.  The Falcons (5-5) have lost four of five after a 4-1 start.  With the win, the Giants became the first home team to win in the series since New York beat Atlanta in 1979. The visiting teams had won 12 straight in the series, and the Falcons gave it a good shot at making it 13 in a row.

Patriot Games: Jets tussel with the Brady Bunch in Foxborough

November 20, 2009

Patriots coach Bill Belichick has been the talk of the NFL and blogs this week following his controversial fourth-down call that led to a disheartening defeat.  His critics around Foxborough may be willing to forgive him quickly if his Patriots achieve a different kind of redemption Sunday.

New England is looking for revenge after a 16-9 defeat to the New York Jets in week 2.  The Jets defense suffocated Brady and the Pats, holding the Quarterback to an under 50% completion rate.  However, after their offense sputtered in the loss two months ago, the Patriots will have a chance to all but bury the struggling Jets in the AFC East if they can improve to 6-0 at home.

“What you are seeing is a genius at work”

November 16, 2009

“…which to me isn’t work, so it’s easy to misinterpret it at first.”

Couldn’t have said it any better than Eminem…..

The much talked about Pats-Colts game from last night all stemmed down to one decision late in the 4th quarter by hated but admired Bill Belichick.

With the Patriots up 6 points, with the ball, on their own 28 yard line, with just over 2 minutes to play, New England was faced with a 4th and 2.  Common sense dictated that Belichick would elect to punt.  Nevertheless, the Patriots defied convention, choosing to leave the game in the hands of one of the sports most prolific Quarterbacks.

J-E-T-S…. JUST END THE SEASON

November 15, 2009

The New York Jets may have seen their playoff chances fly away Sunday as they lost 24-22 against a mediocre Jaguars team.  Despite first half struggles, the Jets were in prime position to win the game in the final minutes, with their 2nd ranked defense on the field leading by 1.  There were plenty of early mistakes and missed chances, but all could have been forgiven.  Instead, Bart Scott, Kerry Rhodes and the rest of the obnoxious Jets defenders let their fan base down.

“Embarrasing…just embarrasing” said Bart Scott after the game.

Embarrassing?  More like pathetic.
