Woodson? Defensive Player of the Year?

January 12, 2010

…you tell him Kanye.

Green Bay Packer cornerback Charles Woodson beat out Darrelle Revis for NFL Defensive Player of the Year, according to the Associated Press.

Woodson, in voting by a national panel of 50 sportswriters and broadcasters, is only the second Green Bay Packer to win in the 36-year history of the award.

Vote Revis ’09

Darrelle Revis deserves Defensive Player of the Year

Escaping Revis Island in 2009 has been a daunting task for opposing wide receivers.

“I went back and looked and I was going to be subtle about this, but if Revis is not the NFL Defensive Player of the Year, something is wrong with the system,” Rex Ryan said. “Nobody, and I mean nobody, in maybe the history of the game has had the challenges that he’s faced week in and week out.”

Darrelle Revis, who has six interceptions and an NFL-leading 36 passes defended in his third season, has routinely shut down opposing teams’ top receivers such as New England’s Randy Moss, Buffalo’s Terrell Owens, Carolina’s Steve Smith and Houston’s Andre Johnson.  Even in what Revis described as his worst game of the season, he held Reggie Wayne to two catches for 21 yards when the Colts starters were in the game.

Giants resuscitated, Jets remain on life support

November 22, 2009

Eli Manning had a career day against the Falcons

Despite another meltdown by the shaky Giant defense, Lawrence Tynes kicked the G-men to a 34-31 victory, keeping the Giants in good position for a playoff spot.  The giants snapped their four-game losing streak, and Eli Manning threw for a career-high 384 yards.  Eli added three touchdown passes, including two to Kevin Boss.  The Falcons (5-5) have lost four of five after a 4-1 start.  With the win, the Giants became the first home team to win in the series since New York beat Atlanta in 1979. The visiting teams had won 12 straight in the series, and the Falcons gave it a good shot at making it 13 in a row.

Patriot Games: Jets tussel with the Brady Bunch in Foxborough

November 20, 2009

Patriots coach Bill Belichick has been the talk of the NFL and blogs this week following his controversial fourth-down call that led to a disheartening defeat.  His critics around Foxborough may be willing to forgive him quickly if his Patriots achieve a different kind of redemption Sunday.

New England is looking for revenge after a 16-9 defeat to the New York Jets in week 2.  The Jets defense suffocated Brady and the Pats, holding the Quarterback to an under 50% completion rate.  However, after their offense sputtered in the loss two months ago, the Patriots will have a chance to all but bury the struggling Jets in the AFC East if they can improve to 6-0 at home.

“What you are seeing is a genius at work”

November 16, 2009

“…which to me isn’t work, so it’s easy to misinterpret it at first.”

Couldn’t have said it any better than Eminem…..

The much talked about Pats-Colts game from last night all stemmed down to one decision late in the 4th quarter by hated but admired Bill Belichick.

With the Patriots up 6 points, with the ball, on their own 28 yard line, with just over 2 minutes to play, New England was faced with a 4th and 2.  Common sense dictated that Belichick would elect to punt.  Nevertheless, the Patriots defied convention, choosing to leave the game in the hands of one of the sports most prolific Quarterbacks.
