Knicks 420 Portland for 3rd Straight Win

December 8, 2009

Al Harrington drives to the basket

NEW YORK- Jared Jeffries twice stepped in to draw charges. Chris Duhon dived on the floor to come up with a loose ball, starting a play that ended with Gallinari finding Al Harrington alone under the basket for a dunk, and the New York Knickerbockers won for the fourth time in five games.

The Garden crowd rose at the fourth quarter buzzer and applauded the Knicks for their teamwork, hustle and most importantly strong defensive play against the injury ridden Portland Trailblazers. The Blazers who recently lost Greg Oden to season ending knee surgery came into New York undefeated against the Knicks in the past five games.

3 out of 4 ain't bad

A trip straight through Memory Lane part 3

November 25, 2009

Three the Hardway

Part 3 of 3- The epitome of hustle player, David Lee is what I would like to call a blue-collar worker. He never complains about his role, playing the center position despite his size disadvantage and night in night out you can expect him to compete. Lee may have been the catch of the 2005 NBA draft when the New York Knicks selected him with the 30th and final pick of the first round.

Do Knicks Need The Answer??

November 17, 2009

Stephon Marbury part 2?

The crossover, the quickness, the MVP season and one trip to the NBA finals. Allen Iverson sans the corn rows will be an unrestricted free agent tomorrow after being waived by the Memphis Grizzlies. Iverson 34, signed a year deal with Memphis this past summer but shortly after arriving stated his displeasure with his role coming off the bench. He left the team due to personal matters on November 7th which the team granted, however yesterday the Grizzlies announced that Allen’s one year contract was being terminated due to the matters that needed his full attention off the court. It was said that both parties agreed to this resolution and parted amicably.

Larry and Co. Defeat New Orleans for the Knicks 1st Win of the Season..yes.. I meant Larry Hughes

Is Larry Hughes for real or is this another mirage in the Knicks desert? Mr Hughes pictured above, poured in a season high 20 points on 8 for 13 shooting along with 6 rebounds and some decent defense against one of the L’s best point guards CP3. Larry who received 2 DNP’s for the start of the season replaced the cold shooting Jared Jefferies in the Knick starting lineup in yesterdays 117-111 victory over the Hornets of New Orleans.

Larry continued to impress Coach D’antoni by hustling on defense and playing good solid basketball on both ends of the floor. Hughes, who was jabbed and prodded by the media early in season on why he wasn’t in the rotation, kept his mouth shut and let his game do the talking. He has responded by playing well of the bench in Saturdays loss to the Sixers and working himself into the starting lineup alongside Duhon, Gallinari, Chandler and Lee.

Gallo who has been scorching as of late only managed to score 9 points on 2 for 9 shooting. He however still made the most out of his 39 minutes of play by dishing out 5 sweet dimes, 3 in the 1st which ignited a 14-0 Knick run, grabbing 2 boards and blocking 1 shot. He worked well with D Lee on pick and roll plays and showed his grittiness by driving to the basket instead of settling for jump shots. All in all the Rooster has shown not only a picture perfect stroke from outside but some real basketball acumen on the court.

David Lee contributed 28 points and 8 rebounds while battling his counterpart Emeka Okafor who enjoyed his best game as a Hornet with 24 points and 10 rebounds. Chris Duhon was a major factor in D Lee’s points as they picked and rolled New Orleans to death. Duhon also enjoying his best game of the young season added 18 points with 9 dimes and finished with a crucial lay up in crunch time to seal the Knicks 1st victory of 09-10.

It also looks like Al Harrington has found his niche. He again provided a spark off the bench offensively dropping 24 points and 8 assists in 30 minutes of play. He contributed both offensively and defensively late in the game as he scored 3 consecutive times with 2 drives to the hoop and a big 3pointer. He also blocked a Chris Paul shot attempt with 3 minutes left to end the hopes of a Hornet comeback.

The Knicks are averaging 5 blocks per game this season, they only averaged 2 BPG last season. Jared Jefferies needed 3 stitches above his right eye after some contact late in the 3rd quarter while driving to the hoop.

They resume their 5 game home stand tomorrow when the Pacers visit town at 7:30PM.

Kryptonate Sidelined with a Severe Ankle Sprain

November 2, 2009

It's gotta be the shoes

Nate Robinson will be unavailable tonight when the Knicks take on the Hornets. He suffered a severe ankle sprain in Saturdays overtime loss to the Sixers. Nate left the Garden on crutches and did not practice with the team on Sunday. He is listed as day to day but he will most likely be out for 2 weeks.

Larry Hughes who impressed Coach D’antoni with 18 points, 6 assists, 4 steals and 5 rebounds in 39 minutes of play will most likely get the bulk of Nates minutes. Larry got his first season appearance Saturday when he replaced Chris Duhon early in the 1st quarter and contributed heavily to the Knick 4th quarter comeback.

Danilo Gallinari looks to continue his torrid shooting as of late against Charlotte tonight at MSG. He drilled 8 3 pointers against the Sixers and is aiming to break Latrell Sprewells record of 9 set in 2003 when he went 9 for 9 from the arc.
