Rob Schremp had two goals

UNIONDALE, N.Y. — The New York Islanders and Detroit Red Wings both returned East after successful western trips.

Only the host Islanders brought their game back with them.

Islanders look home-sick

December 10, 2009

Scott Gordon's Isles have lost 4 of their last 5.

Toronto’s Jason Blake knocked home a bouncing puck with less than 5 minutes remaining against his former team, and the Maple Leafs held on for a 3-2 victory on Wednesday night.  Despite John Tavares’ two power-play goals to tie the game in the third period, the Islanders headed back home to New York without a point.

November 26, 2009

Scott Hartnell scored the game-winner for the Flyers

Despite grabbing the Flyers’ most potent Islander-killer of years past in Martin Biron (12-1-0 against the Islanders), New York still couldn’t beat Philadelphia on Long Island last night.  The Islanders went all of last year without beating Philadelphia, and although Biron was solid in net,  the Islanders didn’t give him much help.  The Isles registered only one shot on goal in the third period that was tied 1-1 until Scott Hartnell’s game-winner at 14:33.  The Islanders had 28 shots throughout the first two periods, but seemed to tire towards the end as the Flyers were able to out-work them to loose pucks.

November 14, 2009

I guess Kyle Okposo is feeling better, huh?

Okposo in his first game after sitting out with what was thought to be swine flu scored the game-winning goal in overtime to give the Islanders a 4-3 win, and extend the Hurricanes winless streak to 14.  With 15 seconds remaining in OT, Okposo intercepted a pass near the blue line and snapped one past Manny Legace from the left circle to snatch the second point in what was a thrilling game.
