Islanders routed by the Panthers

December 15, 2009

Nathan Horton scores his first of three goals

I actually watched most of this game, and what an embarrassment it was.  The Islanders were beaten to every loose puck, could not get their fore-check going, and looked flat in every aspect of the game.

If there had been anything more significant than the sparse crowd on hand at Nassau Coliseum last night, the Islanders would’ve been hit with a hurricane of boos, but with the paltry attendance (listed as 10,489) the team was lucky to escape with just an understated shower of discontent after a humiliating 7-1 defeat by the Panthers.

November 14, 2009

I guess Kyle Okposo is feeling better, huh?

Okposo in his first game after sitting out with what was thought to be swine flu scored the game-winning goal in overtime to give the Islanders a 4-3 win, and extend the Hurricanes winless streak to 14.  With 15 seconds remaining in OT, Okposo intercepted a pass near the blue line and snapped one past Manny Legace from the left circle to snatch the second point in what was a thrilling game.
