NHL Playoffs begin with a BANG!

April 15, 2010

Sid the Kid and his Penguins are already down 1-0 to the Senators

We here at T.O.N.Y. Sports apologize for the lack of NHL coverage, but hockey is just simply trumped by the other major sports in this town.  Nonetheless, even with both the Rangers and Islanders out of the race for the cup, the Stanley Cup playoffs definitely peaked my interest last night.  Read the rest of this entry ?

The Islanders snapped a three-game losing streak with Frans Nielsen’s breakaway backhander 24 seconds into overtime. Islanders look home-sick

December 10, 2009

Scott Gordon's Isles have lost 4 of their last 5.

Toronto’s Jason Blake knocked home a bouncing puck with less than 5 minutes remaining against his former team, and the Maple Leafs held on for a 3-2 victory on Wednesday night.  Despite John Tavares’ two power-play goals to tie the game in the third period, the Islanders headed back home to New York without a point.

Goalie Dwayne Roloson was the star of the show last time in Toronto, making 58 saves en route to a 4-3 victory.   16 days removed from his miraculous performance against the Leafs,  he could not match his heroic effort from weeks prior.

Islanders Fight Back, But Lose in Shoot-Out

November 15, 2009

Playing in their third game in four nights, the Islanders showed grit and toughness in erasing a 4-2 third period deficit, but ultimately fell to the Panthers in a shoot-out.  It was the Islanders NHL leading 11th overtime game, and they were able to earn a point in their third straight road game.

It was another strong start for the Islanders, who have scored 11 first-period goals in the past four games.  Tim Jackman gave the Isles the lead with a birthday goal just 16 seconds into the game.  Panther’s goaltender Tomas Vokoun entered the game with three shutouts in his last four starts, but did not look good early.  Josh Bailey set up the Islanders second goal, connecting with Trent Hunter who roofed one to the corner of the net to give the Islanders a 2-0 lead.
