The top 10 athletes of the 2000’s…..No. 8

December 14, 2009

No stranger to Homerun Derby's

The past decade in baseball will be refered to by most as the “steroids era,”  as there were few star players who excelled in the 2000’s without being linked to HGH and/or other performance enhancing drugs.  Nonetheless, the number 8 athlete is considered one of the greatest players ever, without the aid of steroids.   Likewise, this athlete ranks within the top 15 players in major league history in on-base percentage (twelfth), slugging percentage (fourth), on-base plus slugging (OPS; fourth), and adjusted OPS (tied for sixth) before the age of 30.

Thomas Jones had 99 rushing yards and two touchdowns (his third multi-TD game of the season) to help the Jets to their third straight victory after they dropped their previous 3 games. New York has rushed for 100-plus yards in 10 straight games, its longest streak since doing so in 13 straight games in 1981.

St. John’s improves to 8-1 with win over Fordham

December 14, 2009

A balanced attack led St. John's to victory

Justin Brownlee came off the bench to score a career-high 14 points and grabbed 14 rebounds, as St. John’s beat city rival Fordham 73-56 on Sunday in the 81st meeting between the two teams.

Paris Horne added 14 points as the Red Storm (8-1) won their second game in a row after suffering their only loss of the season Dec. 5 against Duke.

Brownlee made his statement early and emphatically. After throwing down a power jam and hanging on the rim to avoid injury, Brownlee sprinted back on defense and rejected a dunk attempt by Fordham’s Chris Gaston, who finished with a career-high of 32 points and 14 boards.
