Clock strikes midnight for St. John’s

The perfect season ended for the Red Storm Saturday against No. 6 Duke, as they were defeated 80-71.   St. John’s trailed by 16 at the half, but fought back and cut it to 4 with 10 minutes remaining before finally running out of gas.  D.J. Kennedy once again led the Johnnies with 18 points and 9 assists in the second half, after not recording a point in the first.  Sean Evans had a season-high 17 points while Kennedy led the Red Storm in scoring for the sixth time this season. St. John’s, playing its first game against a power-conference team, shot 50.9 percent but lost its 26th straight on a Top 25 team’s home floor.

Pacquiao agrees to fight Floyd in March

Manny Pacquiao has signed a contract to fight Floyd Mayweather Jr. in boxing’s biggest fight on March 13, a source with knowledge of the meeting told ESPN.com on Friday night.

Pacquiao and promotor Bob Arum met for two hours Friday to discuss the proposed deal, according to Pacquiao adviser Michael Koncz, who told The Associated Press that “Manny has some additional requirements, requests, which Arum didn’t think was a problem.

Nets Win!!!

I’m not the biggest fan of the Nets but I have to give them some love for finally coming out of their funk last night. Two year veteran Brooke Lopez led the Nets with 31 points for coach Kiki Vandeweghe’s first win since assuming the head coaching position. Courtney Lee added 27 points and nailed two tie-breaking free throws with 2:22 remaining in the final quarter to seal the deal for 1-18 New Jersey.

ATLANTA — Josh Smith was in the locker room when the Atlanta Hawks were trying to find a way to stop the New York Knicks‘ cuts to the basket.

Smith, ejected in the second quarter, proved to be a crucial missing piece.Al Harrington scored 27 points, Chris Duhon had 25 points and 10 assists and the Knicks used an effective combination of 3-pointers and drives to the basket to beat the Hawks 114-107 on Friday night.
