News and Notes: Atlanta comes in as the hottest team in the NHL with a record of 8-1-2 in their last 11 games, averaging a league-leading 3.46 goals per game. The Thrashers’ second leading scorer Maxim Afinogenov has six goals and 13 assists in his last 14 games against the Islanders, including two assists in a 6-3 loss at New York on Nov. 7. The Islanders have dropped four of six and are looking to rebound from Saturday’s 6-1 defeat at New Jersey. In the third period, they gave up four goals while managing just four shots. The Isles are also 1-28 on the power-play in their last seven games. The notorious “healthy scratch” label will be removed from one of two Islanders for Thursday’s game. With Frans Nielsen expected to miss at least one game, Blake Comeau or Rob Schremp will be inserted into the lineup. Goalkeeper Rick DiPietro had another positive practice session as he prepares to play in his first game, which will be with the Isles’ AHL affiliate in Bridgeport Saturday.
