Lundqvist Phenomenal Against Ottawa-Rangers win in shootoutNovember 14, 2009
The Rangers were able to escape numerous scoring chances on the road against the Senators and sneaked out of Ottawa with a 2-1 shootout victory.
It was a complete team effort to even push the game to a shootout as the Rangers were called for a penalty in OT. Kotalik was called for tripping with 1:23 left giving the Senators a 4-3 man advantage. Ottawa forced the pressure with shot after shot, but each time Callahan and Staal showed complete disregard for their bodies, throwing themselves in front of the blazing shots from Spezza and Lee.
Lundqvist had to be at his best in order for the Rangers to leave with 2 points. Lundqvist made remarkable save after remarkable save, and like always, when the pressure was on, Henrik Lundqvist stepped up.
P.A. Parenteau was called up from Hartford yesterday and came up big. Parenteau was able to redeem himself after he missed an open net during regulation that would have put the Rangers ahead. In the shootout, Parenteau showed coach Tortorella and his family, who was in attendance, that he can play in the NHL with the go ahead goal in the 7th round of the shootout.
“It’s pretty big,” Parenteau said. “My family was here. I had a lot of friends, too, so it’s a great feeling to score a shootout winner when you have a lot of people in town for you.”
Overall, the win was a complete team effort and a much-needed team win. Coach Tortorella was even caught showing some emotion as he clinched his fist in excitement as Lundqvist denied the final shooter for Ottawa. The Rangers over their last 11 games are 3-7-1, and that is exactly the type of victory that was needed before they play 5 games in the next 7 days.
The Rangers have off till Tuesday when they will be back at the Garden to play the Capitals and seek revenge as the Washington ousted the Rangers from the playoffs last year.
