Rex Ryan Challenges Jets Fans for Sunday

November 13, 2009

Head Coach Rex Ryan is no dummy.  He knows that the Jets fan base is both disappointed and scared heading into the second half of the season.  So instead of allowing the fans to continue soaking in a puddle of tears, he offered an edict and plea of sorts, similar to the one before week 2’s game against the Patriots.

“Obviously, our team has got to give you reason to cheer and give our fans reason to cheer and that’s what we’re out to do this week. We do need to get that going.”

“When we played New England, that was the loudest stadium I had ever been in. In that two-minute situation, it was unbelievable. There was no question this wasn’t just the Jets. This was their team, our fans’ team.

“We need a great effort this week, so I am challenging our fans. I know they’re going to challenge me, and rightfully so, but it’s my job to get this team ready to go. Be prideful that this is your football team and we can accomplish everything we set out to do and I think when we get that energy from our crowd, that might be the difference this week.”

What better way to rejuvenate a fan base then asking them to basically get even more drunk and turn the Meadowlands into a mad house?

Is this a legit tactic?  Or a pathetic plea from the head coach?

Certainly Rex Ryan has been the ire of Jets fans lately and has been criticized for poor in-game management that would make Herm Edwards look good.  Nevertheless, this is a perfect way to get the fans back into the team, and deflect any bad ills that remain from the first half of the season.

C’mon Jets fans….GET LOUD.  Rex and his Jets are counting on you.
