Streaky Rangers fall…again

November 13, 2009

isd

The Rangers lost another game last night to the Atlanta Thrashers to a score of 5-3. Iyla Kovalchuk returned to action for the Atlanta Thrashers after being sidelined for 2 weeks after being hit with a puck in his foot.  He returned alright, scoring a goal and adding 2 assists carrying the Thrashers to the victory.

The Thrashers were able to score in the opening minute of the game;  however, the Rangers were able to quickly answer back and tie the game at one.  The game looked up for grabs untill a dismal second period as the Rangers were outscored 3-1, in turn sealing another one from the L column and another heartbreaker for the Ranger faithful.

The Rangers after another disappointing loss are now looking up at the Flyers, Penguins, and Devils in the division, and are extremely close to letting the Islanders surpass them as well.  Maybe that’s what they need to reroute this ship, being ilkjanfdksmpassed by the hated and mediocre at best New York Islanders who were one of the last teams in the league to win a game this season.

I am not in the locker room so I can’t say what the problem is, but we can sure as hell speculate.  First, complacency is always a problem.  After a 8-1-0 start, the Rangers believed that they would win as long as they laced up their skates.  Please, can somebody take charge and get this thing back together because this inconsistency is making me, as well as many other Ranger fans, sick.  To squander a lead like that is really deflating.  On a good note, there are only good things to come because it can’t get any worse it seems.

It’s funny how in sports the tide can turn so quickly.

The most disappointing thing with this slide is that the team (regardless if it is different from last year),  is falling into the same trap as last year.  They start off extremely strong and then steadily begin to fall apart forgetting that the season is a marathon, not a sprint.  The talent is there.  We have seen it over the eight game win streak, so why is it that every night no one is sure which Ranger squad will show up?  This will lead to a .500 season that will not be good enough for a spot in the East.

Brandon Dubinsky, as mentioned in my last post, will be sidelined for 4-6 weeks with a broken hand after being hit with a puck blocking a slapshot on net.  Chris Drury also did not play last night due to a concussion.  The next game is Saturday at 2:00 versus the Ottawa Senators.  Maybe they will show up.  Call it in the air, heads or tails?…
